An eye on Ruxandra's stories...
A glimpse into the world of Nomos.
NOMOS Glashütte, the craft of watchmaking
"It was the last quarter of the year 2022 when I have discovered this wunderban German brand even though its very existence took place somewhere around the 1845, in the small town of Glashütte.
A brand with heritage, the watchmaking craftsmanship being passed down through generations with big attention to detail and of course, quality.
When you acquire a NOMOS watch, you are actually acquiring a timepiece that will transcend, something your children and grandchildren can inherit and wear with the same excitement as you, the watches being very minimalistic and with a timeless design.
Last year, in September, I had the opportunity to visit Glashütte, attending both the NOMOS Forum event, but also have visited the factory and saw how these little wonders are made.
It’s quite the thorough process, I can tell you that. Assembling a watch takes lots of time, patience, a skilled eye and a skilled hand.
Afterwards, everything needs to be checked and approved, so the watch you ordered meets the high quality standards that NOMOS thrives with.
Only the designation of a few products around the world are as strictly protected as watches from Glashütte. To emphasise the stringent quality standards of this unique town, the appellation “Glashütte” was placed under special protection.
The brand has several ranges, from which I had the pleasure of reviewing first hand a few.
But their most luxurious range is called “Lux” . Lux is Latin for “light” - a name that describes best this specific design.
The Lux dial, inspired by the iconic German kitchen clock, is exceptionally contemporary. Not square, not circular, but simply beautiful in the most classic way: the tonneau form with archetypal lugs.
Whether white (gold) or rose (gold): The case is made from 18 kt gold and sapphire crystal glass, while the strap is from remborde and cushioned Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan—which is the best leather we know.
Another design that I personally like is Tangente - a design that has been launched in many beautiful colours at the Watch & Wonders event in Geneva this year.
The watches are not from 18kt gold as the Lux range, but they’re just as special.
I call it affordable luxury, and to be honest, when I saw all the work that is put behind creating a timepiece, I would say that the price is more than correct.
Continuing the affordable luxury designs list, I would also recommend Ludwig, Tetra and Orion.
