30 years ago Wouter Vermeulen fell in love with the Ste Catherine neighbourhood when he started as an employee at Noordzee/Mer du Nord. At the time it was a very small fishmongers at the corner of Rue Ste Catherine and Place Ste Catherine. Very soon he became passionate about the craftsmanship and the beauty of the products the sea has to offer. He became the owner two years later.
This was the beginning of a beautiful itinerary. Throughout the years, Noordzee/Mer du Nord has has not only built up a reputation of high quality fishmongers, but it is also known for its outside fishbar. Wouter was one of the first having introduced ‘streetfood’ in the very city center at the beginning of the years 2000. Although there has never been a ‘masterplan’ for the Noordzee/Mer du Nord concept -it all grew organically and with great enthusiasm- Noordzee/Mer du Nord has become a place of enjoyment and relaxation at one of the most enchanting places of Brussels. The quality of Wouter’s business lies in the composition of best fresh products from the sea. The captain being present every day of the week in order to check quality and freshness with his skilled hands.
