Don't joke around with fries!
There's no controversy when it comes to claiming the true origin of the fry; no agreement has been reached, and diplomats have long left the negotiating table!
What is certain is that Belgian fries bring everyone together, especially today, as August 1st marks their day: the International Belgian Fry Day!
As a marvelous coincidence, this day is also dedicated globally to joy, so we proclaim this blessed August 1st as the day of celebrating the sheer delight of savoring the majesty of our homegrown fry!
Now, I can't speak for other places like France or any other countries that may claim the title of the "original fry," but here in Brussels, fries and the famous fritkots are part of our national heritage, and we proudly rank as the world's biggest consumers!
Let's dive into some numbers: with approximately 5000 fritkots in Belgium, each selling an average of 80 cones per day, we achieve a mind-boggling result of around 400,000 cones of crispy, succulent 1 cm squared fries sold daily in our beautiful country!
So, concede defeat, self-proclaimed rivals, and overly patriotic French fry enthusiasts; when it comes to fries in Brussels, it becomes an art.
Comfortably seated on its throne, the fry is Belgian, and oh so delicious!
Enjoy!
