Japanese green gold escapade
Matcha: a sip of Japanese tradition with a modern twist.
Born from the misty hills of Uji, Japan, matcha is more than just a finely ground green tea—it is a centuries-old ritual, a symbol of harmony, and an art form in itself.
Originally crafted for Zen Buddhist monks to enhance meditation, matcha became the heart of the Japanese tea ceremony, a refined practice blending mindfulness and hospitality.
Each vibrant green sip carries the essence of Japan’s deep-rooted traditions, where patience, precision, and purity shape its very soul.
Beyond its cultural heritage, matcha stands as a nutritional powerhouse. Packed with antioxidants, it helps fight oxidative stress and promotes overall well-being. Its natural combination of caffeine and L-theanine provides a sustained energy boost without the jitters, making it a favorite among those seeking mental clarity and focus.
From strengthening the immune system to supporting metabolism, this green elixir is celebrated for its holistic health benefits, making it a true superfood.
Today, this sacred elixir has transcended its origins, captivating wellness seekers and gourmets worldwide.
From artisanal matcha lattes in stylish cafés to bold reinterpretations by Michelin-starred chefs, matcha has found its place in the modern culinary scene.
Its presence in cosmopolitan cities reflects a growing global appreciation for both its taste and its philosophy—an invitation to slow down, savor the moment, and reconnect with the art of mindful indulgence.
Now that you’re fully immersed in the world of this beautiful green powder, here’s a summary of our matcha-focused journey and where to stop for a Japanese-inspired break while indulging in some wellness!
To be honest, we didn’t visit every single place serving the Japanese elixir. Let’s be clear, we’ve "benchmarked," as we say in marketing... carefully selected spots based on our community's input, which dramatically simplified our exploration!
ONO - Brunch & Coffee.
We’ll admit, no in-depth research was needed here – we already know and love Ono.
This spot is all about good vibes, delicious recipes, and wellness, and we’re not alone in this opinion. It’s always buzzing, and when it comes to matcha, they’re experts – whether in cakes, cocktails, lattes, or the traditional preparation, it’s nothing short of bliss.
Avenue Adolphe Buyls, 94 - Brussels
Seven Brussels.
Located in Uccle, not far from us, Seven offers a feng shui-inspired space, minimalist design, and an atmosphere that perfectly sets the stage for your matcha encounter.
The quality of their matcha is superb, just exquisite. It’s one of our top spots for a traditional matcha or a more sophisticated twist on this green gold. We love it here!
Rue Edith Cavell, 10 - Brussels
Kage Brussels.
Another must-visit for your matcha break! With a traditional, cozy vibe and ultra-gourmet approach, Kage lets you savor matcha in every possible form. Don’t miss the toasted matcha butter sando or the hojicha caramel flan... even without matcha, since you're already there, right?
It’s a lovely, high-quality spot that never disappoints!
