Meet THE Supercars' photographer and LB Insider, interview with Rudolf van der Ven.

For many, the sight of a car from the 1960s, especially the beautiful American models (watch this nice article from Supercars), evokes nostalgic remarks about the classic cars that have vanished.
For others, never have cars showcased such beautiful lines as the exceptional vehicles of our time.
What is certain is that stunning car designs have certainly not disappeared.

The most prestigious brands have dedicated top-notch in house laboratories solely focused on perfecting lines, seeking the most captivating designs, and the world's greatest designers all dream of being entrusted with the plans and sketches for a new Supercar model!
Some have touched the pinnacle of automotive design by crafting legendary models, such as Ian Callum, who created the mythical Aston Martin DB9 and the Jaguar F-Type, Giorgetto Giugiaro, known for the iconic Ferrari 250 GT, the DeLorean, and the Lotus Esprit, or Batista Pininfarina with his legendary touch at Scuderia Ferrari!
For your information, the latest edition of the Car Design Awards honored the Ferrari team (Mauro Silva, Angelo Nivola, Federico Acuto), who remain at the highest level in the pursuit of those aggressive and perfect, pure red lines!
Last weekend, Bugatti organized presented his last model "Tourbillon" in London. Photographer Rudolf van der Ven was there to capture and highlight the design and curves of their new Supercar model and meet the head of design Frank Heyl (who is he big fan of Rudolf's work!).

Frank Heyl, Bugatti Torubillon head of design with Rudolf's SuperCars edition book.

Based in Belgium, Rudolf is renowned among luxury and supercar brands for his "dark & colors" style.
His eye for perspectives and technical settings in his photoshoots are unique, enhancing the forms of the world's most beautiful cars.

Interview with Rudolf, by Calista L.:

LB > Looking at your work, one gets the impression that each photo is a work of art, a selection among hundreds of other almost identical shots but not as perfect as the chosen photo to showcase the subject, the most beautiful cars in the world. How did your first encounter go, the one that sparked this passion for legendary cars?

RVDVI come from a family of car lovers, so I would be lying if I said the bug wasn’t already there from the start: I was always surrounded by model cars and toys. But the first true encounter was when I saw a beautiful red Lamborghini Diablo in real life in the early nineties. I had my own yellow one as a toy, but seeing the real thing in the flesh definitely triggered something.

LB
> Today, the biggest luxury and supercar brands are vying for your shots. What was your latest photoshoot, Rudolf, and how did the encounter with the beast go?!

RVDV > My last photographic encounter was with the brand new Lamborghini Revuelto (next pic). It replaces the legendary Aventador after 12 years, and is their new flagship model leading them into the future. I shoot a lot of cars, and it never ever feels like routine. This one however, was something truly special.

LB > If you had to choose only one photo to represent your unique style, Rudolf, which one would you choose and why?

RVDVOne of my personal favourites (and probably a signature shot) is still the side-shot of the Testarossa (next pic). It’s a very moody and mysterious photo, but the lines of the car instantly give it away.

LB > A unique, complete, and exclusive passion for the most beautiful cars in the world. Have you also considered other photography subjects? If you had to add another product to be elevated by your photographer's eye, what would it be and why?

RVDV > I actually have a weak spot for street photography! I used to walk around with a beat up Leica and take black-and-white photos of everyday subjects on the street, until car photography took over completely. I still have my moments (nowadays with my phone), but nowhere near as much as I would like. One day…

Interview type Konbini:

Rather "Night" or "Day"?
I shoot in the dark and edit in the dark. I’m definitely a night person. ;-)
Rather "Meat" or "Fish"?
Meat, for sure! Fish is… fishy.
Rather "Diamond" or "Sapphire"?
Sapphire. Just because it sounds better.
Rather "Lion" or "Tiger"?
Tiger. I like their colours!
Rather "Fantasy" or "Comedy" movie?
I never really liked fantasy movies or books, and it might shock you that I’ve never watched or read LOTR and GOT. I definitely have a lot of favourite comedies however.
Rather "Appetizer/Main course" or "Main course/Dessert"?
Can I pick Desert/Main course? I’m convinced it’s always better to start with desert. In case anything unexpected happens, at least you’ve had the best part.
Rather "Dog" or "Cat"?
Tough one, I love both. But let's go with dogs. Shoutout to our dog Smokey - @smokeybolognese on IG.
Rather "Sea" or "Mountain"?
Again a tough one. Sea.
Rather "Thai" or "Italian" cuisine?
I love both, but if I had to pick one cuisine for the rest of my life: bring on the pizzas and pastas. With heaps of parmigiano, please.

Interview "DefLux" - Definition of luxury:

According to you Rudolf, which definition of luxury is closest to your vision of luxury?
1. Oscar de la Renta: "Luxury is not about buying expensive things; it’s about living in a way where you appreciate them."
2. Henry Royce: "Luxury is when quality remains long after the price is forgotten."
RVDV > definitely the second quote by Oscar de la Renta. Throughout the years I have come to appreciate the quality of higher end products. Whether it’s clothing, electronics or every day items: if you’re willing to spend a little more, you will thank yourself in the long run.

Soon, there will be more content on the fascinating world of supercars, exceptional cars, and concept cars with Rudolf.
