The day of the best man of our life
The first consequence of Father's Day, like all celebrations that place a family member on the throne for a day, is to remind us how quickly time flies...
Needless to say, Father's Day content slips into our editorial calendar, as well as others editorial teams worldwide, waiting for a team member to find the time to ponder and transform this article into a genuine gift guide.
These are not just original ideas, but ones tested and approved by at least one male member and father from our local panel—in this case, my own world.
This may be just my perspective, but when it comes to family, I still lean towards what might be called traditional rather than "normal."
Normality has become a taboo zone filled with hypocrisy, and those who venture into it are often labeled as outdated and accused of intolerance.
Of course, I am referring to our society's relationship with the gay community, especially on the topic of family—a subject I believe I know well, as my son is gay and I have several members of the gay community in my close circle.
I’m not straying from the topic of Father's Day and my curated selection for dads; on the contrary, when I talk about a father's role, I include both straight and gay men. This is how the vast majority of gay men see it—there’s no hypocrisy or ambiguity here.
The role of a father remains sacred: a man who watches over his child throughout life, offering love, kindness, and protection, until the day comes when he needs his child to care for him in his old age.
Writing this, I realize it paints a beautiful life path for a father, yet it almost sounds outdated.
It's up to us to ensure this doesn't become obsolete.
Now, let's focus on the gifts. Father's Day is on June 9th.
The goal is to claim the glory of the best gift of the year.
Look no further—pick one of these five wonders and win the crown!
DINNER AND SHOW
Let's start with the assumption that all dads are men; taking them on a culinary journey is an absolute must.
Attending a show is also a must; a child remains active in a man's mind throughout his life. For this combined gift, choose an inspiring, visual, and intriguing show.
Head to the Expo Titanic - The Artifact Exhibition at Tours and Taxis, last admission at 5:30 p.m. Then, to end the day in the joy and total happiness of a perfect meal, we recommend one of our favorites, Comme chez Soi. You're in the hands of a family of magicians in an extraordinary Art Nouveau setting.
NEW PAIR OF SNEAKERS
Personally, I find this gift slightly mundane, but it often makes a comeback. So, with a truly great pair of Nike Air Jordan lows, I assure you it's not just because it's their bestseller. Super classy, top stylish, dads will love.
RELAX INSIDE WATER
A unique moment of well-being and an incredible experience to try if Dad hasn't experienced it yet. He'll be amazed and delighted by "Bulles à flotter", I promise. Floating in bubbles immerses you in a sensation of absolute relaxation. With dimmed lights and no muscles working, it's a dream.
DAD THE GEEK
There's always a tech choice on a dad's gift list, and the one that stands out is always the drone. Except this one is more than perfect for expanding the list for those who are more or less skilled with buttons. The DJI Mini 4 Pro is child's play to use, robust for first steps in the air. After a few minutes, you'll realize you've mastered it. Then it's time to add a VR headset, and you'll find yourself flying over oceans, soaring like a bird over a hilltop, or discovering your neighborhood from above.
ESPADRILLES, IT'S SUMMER
Finally, a new pair of shoes, totally iconic for the cool dad, ready for vacations and casual Fridays: espadrilles! We've searched, and we're heading to Maison Degand for its revamped but still authentic line of summer shoes for gentlemen: Rivieras.
No need to go further; five is enough. Happy Father's Day to all the dads, the most important men in the world. While we're so fortunate to still have them with us to celebrate this day, sitting on their thrones, playing with their gifts. Dad remains important, even in heaven.
