The next chapter of a gold story

A journey of gold, coins, and continuity.

In the first content of this line about gold (read from stardust to coins), we introduced our trusted guide in this fascinating world.
Today, we confirm him as our reference point: Vassili Chiarot, third generation at the helm of Or du Temps - Collections in Brussels.

His passion and expertise illuminate the journey of collectors and curious minds alike — and at the end of this article, his words offer a personal glimpse into the heart of numismatics.

Fifty years is more than a milestone — it is a journey.
Born in Brussels’ Old Market and perfected over generations, Or du Temps Collections (OTC) now steps into a new era.
With a renewed visual identity on the horizon and a bold vision led by Vassili, OTC continues to honor its legacy while inviting the community to become part of its future.

Every collection tells a story. Beyond weight or value, rare pieces reveal history, heritage, and emotion,” shares Vassili, guardian of the family house.

A visual identity for the next 50 years!
As OTC approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026, the house is reshaping its identity to embody both tradition and modernity.
This transformation is not happening behind closed doors — instead, the community is invited to join the celebration through a unique contest.
Participants are encouraged to help shape this new visual journey.
Many prizes await, with one extraordinary reward at stake: a Napoleon gold coin.

Gold is not only an asset; it is a memory, a testimony of eras, and a bond across generations.

"My First Collection, with OTC".
Alongside this milestone rebranding, OTC is preparing the launch of an inspiring initiative: "My First Collection, with OTC".
Officially starting on October 30 with the reveal of the new identity and website, this operation will open the doors of collecting to a wider audience.
Vassili has selected two rare pieces — ideal treasures to begin a personal collection.
They are not merely objects of value but gateways into a world where history and beauty meet.

Q1:
You will soon be unveiling a new logo, a new website, and a refreshed image for L’Or du Temps. Why now, and what message do you want to convey?

FR :

EN :
« The timing is perfect. This year, I’m celebrating 10 years at the helm of the shop, and next year marks L’Or du Temps’ 50th anniversary. I’d been in my new location for two years, and a graphic overhaul was necessary. It’s not about sending a specific message, but about evolution: time moves on, things change. You need to modernize while keeping the charm of the past. Today, in a world where visual impact matters, it’s important to show this modernity. »

Q2: Could you share a bit of the history of L’Or du Temps Collections and what makes it such a reference in Brussels?

FR :

EN :

« It all started with a passion for coins. My grandfather bought coins, each telling a story. In 1976, he obtained his mobile merchant license and began selling on a small folding table at the Old Market, while still working as a laborer. The shop later moved several times, and my mother worked alongside him for many years. From rue du Midi to Rue du Lombard, the gold and collecting shop has always remained rooted in this iconic and very famous district of numismatics and gold. From 1995 onwards, my uncle managed Or du Temps – Collection for twenty years, until he fell ill. In 2015, when the shop was at risk of closing, I decided to take it over, while continuing to work in security and graphic design. I learned the trade on the job, guided by instinct, the internet, and my family’s support. Ten years later, we’re still here, and this continuity is probably what makes us a reference in Brussels. »

Q3:
You are known for your professionalism, with customer reviews close to 5 out of 5! Who are your clients today – the people who walk into your boutique?

FR :

EN :
« We welcome all kinds of clients: collectors, investors, sellers, or simply the curious. Some buy, inherit, collect, or invest. The difference between an investor and a collector? The investor seeks to protect their assets or speculate, while the collector is driven by passion. But one can easily be both at the same time. »

Q4:
It is said that Brussels is one of the world’s capitals of numismatics. Do you have clients coming from far away, and what advice would you give to someone just starting out?

FR :

EN :
"Yes, we have clients from all over the world: tourists, collectors, dealers… Some even make a detour just to come to Brussels. Many coins have left a mark on me, either because of their history or their beauty. For someone just starting out, the most important thing is to choose a coin they truly like. Of course, the budget matters, as does the era and another very important element depending on the historical period, but above all, the coin has to ‘catch the eye,’ as we say."
