Winter Sun... Simply Djerba

Press journey beneath Tunisian palms, by Alain Tholl de l’Enclos.

Djerba, simply perfect… A Winter sun destination tested… and approved…

Announced press trip confirmed.. Off I went for seven days to explore this enchanting island, away from the usual hustle and bustle, to fully immerse myself in the spirit of Djerba.
I sought to experience two distinct settings: one in a charming boutique hotel with a guesthouse vibe, and the other in a luxurious 5-star resort with balneotherapy.

Each day of the trip was blessed with sunshine and radiant light, accompanied by delightfully mild temperatures.
Upon arriving in Erriadh, a village located south of the capital, I was welcomed at Dar Dhiafa (meaning "House of Guests") by Chiara, the discreet and gracious hostess of the place.
The hotel is an exceptional architectural gem—a harmonious blend of five traditional houses interconnected by passageways.

Traveling During This Season: A Cultural Journey in Djerba

This time of year, the journey takes on a cultural dimension, and Djerba offers a variety of options to explore, both during the day and in the evening.

I thoroughly enjoyed wandering through the souk in Houmt Souk, browsing and bargaining for intricately designed local handicrafts, particularly woven baskets—a testament to the island's rich artistic tradition. Along the way, I added a touch of cultural discovery with a visit to the historic Ghali Mustapha Fort.

Another cultural must-see on the island is the Lalla Hadria Museum, which presents a rich panorama of Tunisian and Arab-Islamic art. Housing a remarkable collection of over a thousand pieces, the museum tells the story of 13 centuries of history, making it an essential stop for any art enthusiast.

Considering Djerba’s reputation for wellness and beauty treatments, I couldn’t resist exploring this aspect of the island. I visited the Cinq Mondes Spa at the Radisson Blu Palace Resort and Thalassa in Houmt Souk, where I indulged in a facial treatment, followed by a relaxing manicure and pedicure.

Evenings of Entertainment and Relaxation in Djerba

As the evening set in, I felt the urge to explore, and two enticing options were presented to me. My first night out was spent at the Casino, where I enjoyed dinner, sipped on a drink, and wandered around the gaming tables. The suspense and excitement of seasoned players provided great entertainment.

For my second night, I opted for a more intimate, trendy local vibe at the restaurant La Taverne, located in the tourist zone.

On the fourth day of my getaway, I headed to the Royal Garden Palace, a five-star resort where I indulged in a spa session.

The experience began with a hammam, followed by a body scrub, and ended with a relaxing massage. Beyond these moments of well-being, I took rejuvenating walks along the seashore and explored the city of Midoun.

An irresistible urge led me to the Djerba Golf Club, conveniently located across from the Royal Garden.

There, I committed to three days of beginner’s golf lessons. Under the guidance of a skilled instructor, I learned the basics and techniques of golf over several engaging afternoons—a truly enriching and sporty experience.

A Taste of Tunisia in Brussels

Before heading to Djerba or upon your return, I recommend visiting two places in Brussels that bring a taste of Tunisia to the city.

First, there’s SEED, a "Couscous Bar" where you can savor this iconic dish, whether served with fish, chicken, or lamb.

Second, don't miss Star de Tunis, the perfect spot to discover Tunisian pastries made from nuts, orange blossom, almond paste, and honey. These delicacies are a delight for your guests at the end of a meal or during tea time, especially when paired with a refreshing mint tea.
